Sontronics DM-1S Overview
The Sontronics DM-1T, DM-1S, and DM-1B are the British microphone brand’s initial forays into direct drum miking. The microphones required more than two years of research, development, and testing, and, like all Sontronics microphones, they provide the highest quality and professional-sounding results at an unbelievable price.
Trevor Coley, Sontronics’ inventor, and designer, deliberately built the DM-1T and DM-1S to record the precise qualities of your tom and snare: skin slap, snare rattle, assault, boom, decay, and so on.
Rather than designing a single mic that performs well on both snare and tom, these microphones have slightly distinct frequency response graphs to get remarkable performance on each drum. These end-fire pencil-style condensers, like the DM-1B (our condenser mic for kick drum and bass instruments), feature a -10dB pad switch that allows them to handle up to 135dB SPL, and we know that all of our drum microphones perform admirably both live and in the studio.
The Sontronics DM-1T and DM-1S have been put to the test by session drummers, live musicians, and producers such as Flood (U2, Killers, Arctic Monkeys) and Mark Rankin (Friendly Fires, Florence & The Machine). Sontronics’ amazing and unrivaled DM-series microphones will allow you to hear your drumkit in a completely new way.
