Fluid Audio CX7 Black Active HiFi Reference Monitor

Fluid Audio’s inventors have been making speakers for over 25 years. Fluid Audio is pleased to introduce the NEW Fluid Audio CX7 Hi-Fi active reference monitor, which has undergone thorough design, tweaking, and voicing.

The CX7 is our newest generation coaxial design system, featuring an AMT ribbon tweeter and carrying on the history of our award-winning FPX7 monitors. Air Motion Transformer tweeters have gained popularity in the audio industry due to their clear sound, quick attack, and high efficiency. Dr. Oskar Heil created the AMT’s pleated diaphragm, which acts as bellows to “squeeze” the music out in an accordion-like manner. This design generates extremely fast response times and high-quality detail.

Components of Fluid Audio CX7:

Woofer

The woofer driver of Fluid Audio CX7 is 7″ (178mm) in diameter and features a low distortion magnet design. That magnet drives a high-temperature voice coil, which is connected to a polypropylene-coated paper pulp cone. The cone is attached to the frame by a malleable butyl rubber rim, which lowers high frequency resonant peaks that may be transmitted from the cone. Although some claim to use “space age” materials in their cones, since the 1920s, paper pulp has been the most popular material for woofer cones. Why? Its excellent damping capabilities, combined with its high strength-to-weight ratio, enable the woofer to reproduce pure tones rather than ringing resonances.

Tweeter

The Fluid Audio CX7 tweeter is what sets this speaker apart and adds to its outstanding sound. The yellow part in the center of the speaker houses a 28mm x 43mm Air Motion Transformer (AMT) tweeter with a neodymium magnet. AMT tweeters have long been known for their excellent detail and lightning-fast attack. The CX7 is distinguished by its coaxial arrangement, which places it in the center of the woofer. This not only makes the “acoustic center” the same for both the woofer and tweeter, substantially increasing the speaker’s vertical off-axis response, but it also allows for a slightly shorter and more compact speaker cabinet. Aside from its extremely fine detail, the AMT offers excellent imaging and heights.

Bass-Reflex Port

The bass-reflex vent port is a circular opening at the bottom of the Fluid Audio CX7’s front panel. It is designed to effectively tune the speaker cabinet to a specific frequency while also increasing the speaker’s bass output. It is mounted on the front panel to fire directly at the listener while also providing location freedom (a rear firing port may interfere with the wall behind it).

Enclosure and Protection

The Fluid Audio CX7’s container design has a big impact on the speaker’s overall sound quality. Aside from being made of acoustically effective MDF, it is internally reinforced to prevent standing waves within the cabinet. This decreases auditory distortion, which might obscure the speaker’s image. The front baffle also includes a cloth grille fastened with neodymium magnets. This grille is acoustically transparent and protects the speaker drivers from damage.

Fluid Audio CX7 – Amplification and Crossover Networks

The specially designed Class A/B bi-amplifier controls the low and high frequency drivers separately, allowing them to function independently and more efficiently. The Fluid Audio CX7, like the FPX7, has a massive toroid transformer as its power supply. This provides plenty of clean power with a lot of headroom. Using an external heat sink on the amplifier keeps the heat out of the enclosure, allowing the amps and drivers to operate at lower temperatures. When the speaker is not being used, an integrated standby mechanism turns off the amplifier to save energy. The drivers operate with phase-optimized crossover networks to provide a unified soundstage over the whole DSP-controlled audio spectrum.

AMT Tweeter:

Mounting the AMT tweeter in the center of the woofer provides the Fluid Audio CX7 with all of the benefits of a coaxial design. A compact footprint as a “point source” device, with outstanding off-axis performance. This, along with a high-output 7″ woofer, creates a powerful, full-frequency monitor. The 140W custom-designed amplifier has two EQ options: the Tweeter Trim switch and the Acoustic placement switch, which accommodate to any positioning needs in your listening environment. The CX7 amplifier, like those in previous Fluid models, has a huge heat sink and an auto-off Standby function. The new CX7 monitor is the best option for a fantastic HiFi experience, but it can also be used in any studio setting that requires clarity, accuracy, and no coloration.

Key Features of CX7

  1. Driver Configuration:
    • 7-Inch Woofer: The CX7 features a 7-inch glass aramid composite woofer, designed for delivering accurate low to midrange frequencies with minimal distortion.
    • 1-inch Silk Dome Tweeter: The monitor includes a 1-inch silk dome tweeter that provides clear and detailed high frequencies. This combination of drivers ensures a balanced and comprehensive frequency response.
  2. Frequency Response:
    • 39Hz to 30kHz: The CX7 offers a wide frequency response range from 39Hz to 30kHz. This range ensures that both low and high frequencies are accurately reproduced, providing a full picture of the audio spectrum.
  3. Amplification:
    • Class AB Amplification: The CX7 uses Class AB amplification for both the woofer and the tweeter. This type of amplification provides a balance between high power output and low distortion, ensuring clean and accurate sound.
  4. Power Handling:
    • 100 Watts RMS: The monitor delivers 100 watts of continuous power, providing ample headroom for various listening levels and ensuring consistent performance across different volume settings.
  5. Crossover Design:
    • Active Crossover: The CX7 features an active crossover network that ensures precise frequency separation between the woofer and tweeter. This design helps in maintaining clarity and accuracy across the entire frequency range.
  6. Room Correction Controls:
    • Room Adjustment Switches: The CX7 includes room adjustment switches that allow for tailoring the monitor’s response to suit different acoustic environments. These controls help compensate for room reflections and other acoustic anomalies.
