BOSS NS-2 Noise Suppressor

11,395.00

Input/Output Specifications:

  • Nominal Input Level: -20 dBu (standard line-level input).
  • Input Impedance: 1 M ohm (ideal for high-impedance sources like electric guitars).
  • Nominal Output Level: -20 dBu.
  • Output Impedance: 1 k ohm (standard for line-level outputs).
  • Recommended Load Impedance: 10 k ohms or greater (ensures proper interaction with other equipment).

Bypass:

  • Buffered Bypass: Keeps the signal intact when the effect is turned off, ensuring that the dry signal does not degrade.

Controls:

  • MODE Selector Switch: Selects between different processing modes (e.g., compression, limiting, or other dynamic control types).
  • DECAY Knob: Likely controls the decay time of the effect, affecting how quickly the processed signal fades or returns to the original level.
  • THRESHOLD Knob: Sets the level at which the effect (compression or limiting) is triggered. Signals above this threshold will be processed, while those below remain unaffected.
  • Pedal Switch: Engages or disengages the effect.

Indicators:

  • CHECK/MUTE Indicator: Used for both battery check and muting status indication.
  • REDUCTION Indicator: Indicates the amount of signal reduction (compression or limiting) being applied.

Connectors:

  • INPUT Jack: 1/4-inch phone type (for instrument or signal input).
  • OUTPUT Jack: 1/4-inch phone type (for sending the processed signal to an amplifier or next effect in the chain).
  • SEND Jack: 1/4-inch phone type (used in a send-return loop for connecting external devices).
  • RETURN Jack: 1/4-inch phone type (used to return the signal from an external device in a send-return loop).
  • DC IN Jack: For connecting an external AC power adapter (PSA series, sold separately).
  • 9V DC OUT Jack: Provides 9V power to other devices in the signal chain.

Power Supply:

  • Battery:
    • Carbon-zinc 9V battery (6F22) or
    • Alkaline 9V battery (6LR61).
  • AC Adaptor: PSA series (sold separately).
  • Current Draw: 25 mA (low power consumption).
  • Expected Battery Life:
    • Carbon-zinc: Approx. 11 hours.
    • Alkaline: Approx. 24.5 hours (may vary depending on actual usage).

Accessories:

  • Included: Safety and information leaflets, 9V Carbon-zinc battery (6F22).
  • Optional: AC Adapter (PSA series), Parallel DC Cord (PCS-20A, sold separately).

Size and Weight:

  • Width: 73 mm (2-7/8 inches).
  • Depth: 129 mm (5-1/8 inches).
  • Height: 59 mm (2-3/8 inches).
  • Weight (with battery): 415 g (15 oz).

Cut Through the Noise

The NS-2 Noise Suppressor elevates your stage and studio rig with a cleaner and more polished signal. This essential utility pedal solves the common noise problems encountered with electric guitars and basses while preserving your instrument’s dynamics and character. Sensitive analog circuitry silences noise in a smooth and organic way, eliminating the choppy artifacts produced by conventional noise gates. The innovative send/return loop provides isolated detection for high-gain pedals, ensuring optimum noise reduction throughout your signal chain.

Features

  • Noise suppression pedal designed exclusively for guitars and basses
  • Advanced noise detection technology preserves the instrument’s natural sound and response
  • Send/return loop optimizes noise reduction when using gain-based effects
  • Convenient Mute mode for tuning, changing instruments, and performance breaks
  • DC output jack for distributing power to other pedals (requires optional PSA-series adaptor and PCS-20A parallel cable)
  • BOSS five-year warranty

Liberate Your Tone

Noise is an unavoidable issue for electric guitar and bass players. The NS-2 tackles everything from interference caused by lighting and power supplies to more substantial noise associated with high-gain pedals. Cleaning up the signal between notes produces a tight and professional sound, helping you deliver dynamic and impactful performances without distracting hums and buzzes.

Organic Noise Reduction

The NS-2 features an advanced VCA and high-speed envelope-detecting circuits that suppress noise while retaining your instrument’s natural playing feel and note decay. When using overdrives, distortions, and other pedals that produce a lot of noise, the best results are achieved by inserting them in the NS-2’s send/return loop. This allows the circuitry to continually detect the input signal while suppressing noise from the pedals in the loop, ensuring seamless noise reduction as you turn them on and off.

Threshold—Determines the level at which noise suppression begins. Start with the knob at the lowest setting and turn it clockwise until the noise disappears.

Decay—Adjusts how long it takes for the sound to fade to silence after the input drops below the threshold. Turn the knob clockwise to increase the decay time for the most natural sound.

Versatile Functionality

Use Reduction mode if you want to turn the noise suppression on and off with the pedal switch as you play. Or engage Mute mode to toggle between noise suppression and silencing the signal for tuning, instrument changes, and performance breaks. When powering the NS-2 with an optional PSA-series adaptor, the handy DC output jack lets you use a PCS-20A parallel cable to distribute power to other pedals on your board.
